Teaching for Understanding With Technology (CEP 810)
During the summer of 2024, I took a class at Michigan State University (MSU) on Teaching for Understanding With Technology (CEP 810). When I began the course, I felt confident in my grasp of the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework.
I understood how to incorporate technology into my teaching practices effectively. However, the understanding that I thought I had regarding professional learning networks (PLN) was limited. Basically, I viewed my mentor and Dean as the core of my PLN, overlooking the broader spectrum of influences and resources available to me.
Throughout this course, my perspective has profoundly evolved. The deep dive into the TPACK framework has refined my ability to blend technology seamlessly with pedagogy and content, enhancing my instructional strategies.
I have gained deeper insights into the significance of a robust PLN. Engaging with a wider network has enriched my professional development and provided me with a wealth of resources and support. I now appreciate the value of connecting with a community that extends beyond my immediate circle.
The exploration of 21st-century learning and learning theories has been transformative. Understanding the skills and competencies essential for today’s learners has sharpened my focus on fostering critical thinking, creativity, and digital literacy in my students. Integrating contemporary learning theories has enabled me to create more dynamic, student-centered learning experiences. I illustrate this in my essay entitled: Transfer: Connecting New Material to Current Understandings.
In conclusion, this course has been transformative, expanding my knowledge and redefining my approach to teaching with technology. I am excited to continue leveraging these insights to enhance my students’ learning experiences.
