For some, learning online is a great way to develop academic skills and increase proficiency with digital platforms. For others, spending time online (other than for entertainment) is just another way to keep people from connecting with one another. In the video below, I provide a short demonstration of one way that educators (specifically lower elementary) can humanize their online instruction with something called a bumper video.

I first read about this during a class I took while pursuing my master’s in education degree. Pancansky-Brock discussed four principles of humanizing your online class (#HumanizeOL). My bumper video focusses on the principle of Presence. This is done by making imperfect videos to sprinkle around your digital lessons so that the learner gets the feeling that you are on the journey with them.
